Reading the letter you never sent

(this is not a piece written for a particular individual, just the expression of much that I read)

Silence sometimes seems to say the song is sung

Shooting stars a sign, that which was sought is now undone

So sing softly sweetheart, don’t let the tear slip from your eye

Love stirs no more, hears not your secret sigh

Emotions masquerading in mischievous memories

Yet we must move mysterious illusions from the mind

Remember love lives longer in laughter, echoes linger to be reborn

Spirits born of dreams are ghosts to be left behind

The envelop that was never posted with the words you never wrote

Upon the paper that still sits peacefully upon your desk

Is best left whilst memories are unspoiled by bitterness

The nib that floated in the air and ink that never made its mark

Like the scent that isn’t there yet comes wafting upon the air

A future flies high above the clouds, don’t drown in the falling rain

I hear the postman’s patter down the street, a pause, then he passes by

For the envelop was never sealed but left upon the desk

Go walk in your other world and smile at the life you cannot see

That fleeting feeling that forever flies in the face of failure

Pretends love is for life but that’s a silver screen

While my home can only be the illusion born of dreams

  1. I’m feeling a mixed up of emotions over this poem. Bittersweet is the strongest. But overall a lovely piece.

    • The whole poem is exactly about that Jessica, that strange mixture of emotions when lovers part, knowing what is over but somewhere there is a part that says it is not over. Dreams live on as memories, but that is all they are, we still have to move on. The silver screen is a reference to self-deception. I do hope you are keeping well 🙂 ❤

  2. The complex nature of love is so exquisitely portrayed here. Love is so strong an emotion, yet sometimes so illusory….. wonderful that you’re touching on the reality of human feelings. I really enjoyed reading this.

I have read your comment on my poem ‘The Last Poem” and I thank you. Sadly I am not able to log in in my anitabacha.com account. A technical problem I am not able to sort out.
