The Coward and the Traitor

The Coward and the Traitor

The coward simply turns to run away

Proclaiming he might fight but not today

He departs the battlefield in dread and fear

Hoping others will protect what he holds dear

The coward is a man who is afraid of dying

Admits his fear and does not resort to lying

Should we criticise those who are unable to fight

Where their fear requires them to turn in flight

What if you or I were faced by an enemy

Would you stand your ground or flee

The traitor is the snake with a poison bite

A loud-mouthed boaster who will not fight

Instead he’ll make a deal with the enemy

Whilst pretending all he wants is harmony

The traitor pretends to mediate of your behalf

Boasting he’s your friend but he has a hollow laugh

He claims to negotiate on terms that will secure your future

But you know his weak thread will never hold the suture

To act as guarantor that peace by be maintained

But when it came to action the traitor abstained

The traitor is motivated by his greed

If the price is right he’ll perform any deed

Betraying those who are desperate and in need

A man who is a follower yet pretends to lead

His many promises will remain unfulfilled

Two-faced he cares not if you should be killed

As long as there’s a deal that lines his pocket

Your protection cannot come before his profit

He has no friends and deceives himself he has power

But when he meets his enemy he will cower
